Spring boot repair

Here in Winnipeg, it looks like the snow is finally starting to melt. However, all that melting snow does not do good things for your shoes. All of my winter boots are starting to show some signs of wear and have developed salt stains.  (In case you didn’t know, salt stains are those squiggly white stains on your shoes that are caused by the salt they use to melt the snow on sidewalks and streets.)  But don’t lose hope if your shoes get salt stains, they can still be whipped back into shape with a little elbow grease and something you most likely already have in your cupboard!

Are you curious yet?  Well, the best solution to remove salt stains is vinegar!  Yup, the plain old kind you buy from the grocery store.  Here’s how you do it: Tale a small sponge, dip it in vinegar and rub in a circular motion over the discoloured areas. It will turn the leather darker, but once it dries it will go back to its original colour minus the salt stains. After the boots have dried, finish by spraying a conditioning protective spray over the entire boot.
