Today I get to share a little special something I’ve been working on for a while. My mom just turned 50 and for her birthday present, I surprised her by hosting a dinner party for her and all of her friends. I ended up hosting the party at her home because there was much more space to fit everyone we wanted to invite. My dad booked a spa date to get her out of the house, and she didn’t have a clue we had anything planned! Surprise!!!
My mom is super stylish, so I wanted to make sure the decor was perfect. The trick was to make the tables special and glamorous without making it look like a wedding. I ended up opting for sequinned rose gold linens with tall candelabras to give it a hint of glamour, then toning the look down with some beautiful earthy green centrepieces with a few delicate white flowers.
One of my 2014 goals is to learn calligraphy, so I planned to handwrite the guests names on all of the place cards. However, my calligraphy pen decided not to work that day (apparently having the proper ink is important!) and I ended up using a sharpie to create a faux calligraphy look. The thicks and thins of the pointed calligraphy pen aren’t there, but its a big step up from barely being able to handwrite at the beginning of the year!
We had a few chefs from Bergmann’s come create the meal in her home and the food was insanely delicious! The salad was one of the prettiest I have ever seen and had all of the greens rolled into a delicate cucumber slice. The creme brûlée desert tasted as good as it looked with a pretty chocolate butterfly to top it off!
