Today’s blog post comes from the charming French city of Cherbourg. Cherbourg is located along the English channel, in the beautiful region of Normandy, France. The lovely town is brimming with rich history and while walking along the coastline, we passed by an oversized cement bunker, evidence of the past wars you’d otherwise have never known were once fought here.
Cherbourg was the last city we visited on our trip that used euros as their currency. Therefore, we spent most of our day finding bakeries and coffee shops to sample goodies and spend all of our remaining change on. It was here, that I discovered the opera cake (the most divine french confection made of a light almond cake, chocolate ganache and espresso). If you are ever in France, you must try this wonderful dessert!
Now, on to today’s outfit! The most common fashion trend we are seeing this year is definitely 1970’s inspired styles, but there are also several mini trends emerging that are equally stylish. My personal favourite is the trend towards romantic, victorian inspired silhouettes. Influenced by the late 1800’s, the victorian trend is all about soft lace, delicate ruffles and bold bows, without all of the “too tight to breathe” corsets!
A delicate sweater, like the one I’m wearing, with its puffed sleeves, high ruffed neckline and a pussy bow tie, is the perfect way to dip your toe in the victorian trend without looking like you stepped out of the 1800’s. I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of pastels paired with rich jewel tones, so I paired this exquisite aubergine sweater with my favourite quilted midi in 2016’s Pantone Color of the year, Rose Quartz.

Beside black, grey and white, pastels are my favorite, especially in spring. You look amazing! 🙂
