Does anyone else feel like this summer is flying by? Today I looked at my calendar and realized it is almost August. Seriously, how did this happen?!? I’ve started to see back-to-school trends popping up and some retail stores are already previewing their Christmas collections! Gasp!
While I feel like summer has only just started, fashion waits for no one and summer clothes are going on sale everywhere! Meaning now is the best time to stock up on summer staples to wear until autumn hits. But with the warm weather fleeting, which trends should you buy now that won’t be “so last year” before next summer rolls around?
Today I’m sharing my guide for which summer trends will stand the test of time. Keep scrolling to see exactly which trends you should buy and which ones to say goodbye to!

– SUMMER 2017 TREND GUIDE –
Trends to stock up on:
1. Florals
To quote the fictional Miranda Priestly “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”. While the trending floral motif changes year by year, florals are a summer trend that will never go out of style. Whether it’s micro florals, vintage florals or abstract painterly flowers, choosing floral print items are definitely a safe bet to last you through to next season.
2. Millennial pink
If you haven’t gotten on the millennial pink train yet, jump on it now! This trend shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Without a doubt, this peachy pink hue has become the colour of our generation.
3. Gingham & Seersucker
Typically gingham and seersucker are preppy fabrics saved for southern belles, but lately they have become much more mainstream. Stock up on your favourite gingham and seersucker styles, since you can expect to see this trend stick around for years to come!
Trends to say goodbye to:
1. Tropical palm prints
This summer, tropical palm prints have been everywhere! It’s been fun while it’s lasted but I foresee palm prints falling to the wayside as fresh new prints come into vogue.
2. Cold shoulder tops
Cold shoulder tops have certainly had their moment this summer, with every store you can imagine picking up on the trend. But this trend is one that tends to come and go every couple of years, and isn’t known for its longevity. So if you find a gorgeous cold shoulder top you love, buy it, wear it for the rest of the summer, then hang on to it for a few years until it rolls back into style once again.
3. Bomber jackets
Although they weren’t found in many designer’s collections for this summer, Bomber jackets have been extremely popular with fast fashion boutiques. While you can wear this sporty trend into the fall, don’t expect the trend to last through next season. It seems as though designers are already over this trend, and most likely everyone else will soon follow suit.
4. Sheer dresses
While this trend was not nearly as popular as other trends this summer, sheer dresses definitely had a moment. But the practicality of this trend was limited (you can only wear a sheer dress over so many things before it begins to feel tired), leaving most fashionistas to quickly move on to chase after the next trending garment.

Millennial pink?? That’s new xD
And I do not agree with the tropical palm print 😉 I think that print is for the long haul! Also, I think bomber jackets can be done well 😉
I realized August is next week after reading your intro and that’s just so wild to me! Gingham and rompers have been so hot and since I am a romper fanatic; I love that all my favorite stores have put fun spins on them! I love this floral pattern on you!

Southern and Style
The year is definitely going by fast! Thankfully it’ll be staying pretty hot here in Louisiana until pretty much Christmas, so I’ll still be able to wear a few of my summer-y things haha.
