It may still warm outside but fall styles are slowly beginning to arrive in stores. While some people are ready to jump full tilt into fall (hello pumpkin flavoured everything!) I’m planning to make the most of this pre-fall season. Today I’m sharing a few fashion tips for how to dress for this tricky time of year and sharing the pieces you need to seamlessly transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.
Two weeks ago, I had the chance to preview the pre-fall collection from my favourite local boutique Mad About Style and there were so many gorgeous pieces perfect for this transitional season. My outfit today features my two favourite picks from their new collection. A gorgeous grey-blue jacket and a pretty floral peplum top in a rich emerald colour. Both item’s fit perfectly within my recommendations for what types of clothing to look for during this tricky season. The new Mad About Style collection launches online tonight at 6pm and in store this Saturday at 10am. But make sure to read all of today’s post so you know exactly what you should be shopping for at this time of year!
So what should you be shopping for during this pre-fall season?
1. Lightweight outerwear
Lightweight jackets are perfect for transitioning your wardrobe for fall. The gorgeous grey-blue coat I’m wearing is the perfect transition piece. Layered over a pretty tank, it’s perfect for a breezy summer evening. When the leaves start falling, I’ll pair it with a cozy knit sweater and a soft scarf to add a little extra warmth.
2. Rich colours
Another way to seamlessly transition to autumn is by mixing together traditional summer and fall colour palettes. My absolute favourite pre-fall colour combination is pastels mixed with jewel tones. A perfect example of this is a deep navy blue mixed with a soft powder blue, or a rich burgundy paired with a soft blush.
Your favourite summer dress can easily be worn well into fall by layering a pair of tights underneath. Not only do they add a little extra warmth for chilly evenings but they also add tons of texture to your look. Choose tights that are semi-sheer or ones that have a subtle monochromatic pattern, then pair them with a closed toe shoe or bootie.
Speaking of booties, ankle length boots are a perfect choice for this pre-fall season. They can be worn with almost anything from denim cutoffs to your favourite summer dresses and are a great investment piece since they can be worn into the winter season as well.
While vests aren’t know for their practicality (does anyone really ever have the problem of a cold body but warm arms?!?) they can add so much dimension to a simple outfit. Vests are the perfect layering item for this warm pre-fall season, since they give you the look of wearing a jacket without making you break out into a sweat. Right now, I particularly love vests that are slim fitting and longer in length. Worn over a sleeveless dress or your favourite denim shorts, long-line vests give the illusion of looking both taller and slimmer. Ummm yes please!
