Over the years, I have learned a lot about developing a personal style. As a fashion blogger, I have had the unique experience of having documented many of my daily outfits for the past few years. This has given me a whole new perspective on personal style and I have definitely learned a thing or two in the process. Today I’m sharing 7 fashion tips that every woman needs to know for curating a stylish closet.
7 Style Tips Every Woman Should Know
1. Don’t be afraid to try something new!
You might be surprised what styles, colours and shapes actually look amazing on you. Remember, stores don’t charge for trying things on, so go ahead and see how that cute dress you are unsure about looks on you. You never know when you might fall in love with a new style.
2. Splurge on quality basics.
Spend the extra money on classic pieces that you can wear for multiple season. A few things I recommend investing in when it comes to your wardrobe are leather boots, a warm & comfortable coat and a chic purse that works with the majority of your closet.
3. Edit your closet seasonally!
At least twice a year, go through your closet and store items that are out of season. Remove everything that doesn’t fit or is no longer your style to give away or donate. Then store the remaining seasonal items in clear plastic bins until they are back in season. It’s always exciting to open the bins back up once that season rolls around again since all your favourite clothes feel like new again!
4. When in doubt, add more layers!
Adding layers and accessories to your outfits keeps your style from looking flat. To avoid making yourself look bigger, make sure the layers you choose are made of thinner fabrics or balance multiple cozy layers on top with slim fitting pants to show off your figure. Layering takes a basic look and make it look special.
5. The right undergarments can make or break an outfit.
Unless you are intentionally going for a more risqué look, you should never see your undergarments. Invest in a nude coloured bra that won’t show through light coloured shirts. Depending on the types of clothes you choose to wear, other undergarments you might want to include in your lingerie wardrobe include strapless or backless bras, no-show panties, and shape wear such as Spanx to create clean lines under tighter fitting clothing.
6. Highlight one part of your body at a time.
The classy way to show a little skin is to choose to reveal a little more on eit your top or bottom half. If you are wearing a top with a plunging neckline, leave a little mystery by pairing it with a sophisticated maxi skirt.
7. Celebrate the body you have right now.
Almost every woman has things they wish to change about their body. Many women get caught buying or holding on to outfits that they dream of one day fitting but never actually wear. This is a mistake. Instead, choose to buy clothes that fit you and flatter your body right now. Choose clothing that highlight your favourite features and no one will notice the areas that you are more self conscious of.
