One of my favourite parts of traveling is trying the food of different cultures. Of course, not every meal you eat when traveling has to be traditional. Amsterdam is a great example of a city where culinary innovation and the power of social media has created an amazing and unique food scene. To put it simply, Amsterdam has amazing food. Today I’m sharing the best restaurants in Amsterdam that are both delicious and Instagram worthy.
The Best Instagram Food Spots in Amsterdam:
Dignita
Since we traveled with our 11 month old, we appreciated that Dignita was family friendly. There was a cute play area in one corner that Emilia was able to explore while we sipped coffee and waited for our meals to arrive. The menu was delicious, the meals were affordable and the atmosphere was lovely. You know a restaurant is good when your husband asks if you can go again for brunch tomorrow.
Mama Kelly
This all pink restaurant is literally an Instagram dream. There is something about eating in a beautifully designed restaurant that just makes the food taste better. The mainstays of the Mama Kelly menu are chicken and lobster but they also have a yummy seasonal menu with other goodies – I ordered the beet risotto during our visit.
Polaberry
Polaberry is a chocolate shop known for their unique chocolate covered strawberries. It is easily one of my favourite Instagram food spots in Amsterdam since it is both pretty and delicious. Polaberry specializes in taking chocolate covered goodies to the next level when it comes to aesthetics. I picked out this adorable unicorn cake pop as a sweet treat and barely had the heart to eat him since he was so cute.
Corner Bakery
If there is one thing all the restaurants we visited in Amsterdam did well at, it was brunch. From waffles to pancakes to eggs benedict the Dutch know how to do breakfast right. Since we visited Amsterdam in April, it was still rather chilly outside when we stopped by Corner Bakery for brunch. Luckily, their patio was equipped with soft pink blankets that we were able to wrap around ourselves as we were eating. The menu was much more extensive than your typical bakery and offered some healthier items along with their over the top freak shakes (a milkshake toped with a donut and other delicious goodies). We thoroughly enjoyed the food and loved that the menu that had something for everyone.
Van Wonderen Stroopwafels
Stroopwafels are an absolute must-try item when visiting Amsterdam. If you have never tried one before, don’t be misled by the name – they aren’t anything like Belgian style or American style waffles. Instead, stroopwafels are more like a thin waffle shaped cookie sandwiched with caramel in the middle. While you can purchase stroopwafels nearly anywhere in the city, my recommendation is to stop by Van Wonderen Stroopwafels. There is often quite a long wait but it’s so worth it for their hot stroopwafels dipped in chocolate and topped with sweet confections.
