Pleated midi skirts are one of this years trends that I am super excited about. I think fashion should be fun and let’s be honest, pleated skirts are just so much fun to wear. It’s just like dressing up as a little girl in a flowy dress – there is something about a full skirt that just makes you want to twirl! But this season’s pleated skirts are much more grown up. The tailored accordion pleats give the skirt a classic and elegant vibe.
Pleated skirts have been a long time favourite of mine. This pink pleated maxi (that I brought to Thailand a few years ago) has easily been my favourite skirt for years, but sadly it hasn’t fit me since I became pregnant. Currently it’s packed in a box with a few of my other pre-pregnancy clothes that I hope to one day wear again, but for now, I thought it was time to buy a new pink skirt that fits the body I have right now. While I debated buying the exact same skirt in a bigger size, I decided instead to purchase a pink pleated skirt in a completely different fabric and length. This skirt from ASOS is equally pretty with it’s more grown up dusty pink tone and soft chiffon layers.
I personally prefer pleated skirts with a fitted waist band, rather than an elastic waist. I think fitted skirts with a zipper are more flattering and also make your outfit look more expensive. Choosing the right length for your skirt will also make a difference in how your pleated skirt looks. A midi skirt is an easy choice. It’s easy to wear and feels more elegant than a knee length skirt or mini.
Accordion pleated skirts are not only available in solid colours but also in plenty of patterned prints as well. I especially love this leopard print pleated skirt! They also come in plenty of different fabric options. I personally own pleated skirts in both chiffon and silk fabrics but there are also many other options like this faux leather pleated skirt from Atlantic Pacific or this velvet version from ASOS.
