White is a wardrobe staple in my closet year round, but especially come wintertime I find myself reaching for white clothing more often than not. Maybe its the fact that the days are so short and dark, or perhaps it’s the snowy landscapes outside my window that has me drawn towards choosing winter whites for my wardrobe. Whatever the reason, I love wearing white this time of year!
Three Tips for Wearing White this Winter
How to wear white in winter: Incorporate Multiple Textures
Generally, when wearing monochromatic outfits it is best to layer together different textures. In a typical winter outfit I put together I like to incorporate warm fuzzy textures combined with more sleek textures. Here, I used pieces with different levels of sheerness to add visual interest to my outfit then added some texture through the crocodile leather YSL handbag.
How to Wear White in Winter: Choosing Complimentary Colours
Of course you don’t have to wear head to toe white to get the classic winter white look. You can also incorporate light coloured neutrals or pastels into your outfit. I personally love adding a soft blush to my winter outfits. In today’s post, I chose a light blue coat to compliment all the white. Adding hints of black to your outfit is another way to ground an all white look and add a bold touch of contrast.
How to Wear White in Winter: Focus on Fit
My last tip for wearing white in winter is to focus on the fit of each garment you are wearing. White fabric tends to be a bit less forgiving than darker hues of fabric so it is crucial that each piece fits perfectly. If a garment isn’t a perfect fit right off the rack, try bringing it to a local tailor to customize it for your body type.
One more tip: White clothing has the tendency to be more sheer so it is important to choose undergarments in nude tones so they don’t distract from the clean look of your outfit!
