As much fun as designing a house is, decorating little kids rooms is seriously one of my favourite parts. I know this stage of life is fleeting, so I’m taking full advantage of this opportunity to let my imagination and design choices run wild. Adeline will be turning two shortly after we move so I want to design a whimsical space that will grow with her. I decided on a bohemian desert theme for her first big girl room and I can’t wait to make this space magical for her.
A Whimsical Bohemian Girl’s Room
Now without further adieu, here is the design plan for Adeline’s toddler room. I want the room to feel light and whimsical with simple styling that will grow with her. We will be incorporating lots of natural materials through design elements such as rattan, cane and macrame. For the feature wall behind her bed, we chose an abstract desert mural from Photowall that adds in beautiful tones of soft pink and sage green. (If you are shopping for wall decor for your own home, feel free to use code: prettylittledetails20 for 20% off at Photowall!) For the remaining walls I am planning to use a lime wash paint in a soft blush colour to add texture and dimension.
We already own quite a few pieces of bohemian style furniture that we will be incorporating into the room. The rattan headboard we already own will fit perfectly into the space. But if we didn’t already own this one, I would definitely be buying this gorgeous rattan headboard! Adeline will be inheriting a blush linen canopy from her older sister who will be upgrading to a queen sized canopy bed (more details on her room to come!). I also recently picked up a cane side table which will suit the room perfectly.
Other purchases we will be making to finish off the room include this gorgeous macrame swing, some soft linen curtains and additional lighting that we haven’t quite decided on yet (if you see any boho lamps that would suit this room let me know!)
